From Levanto to Monterosso
Levanto is often referred to as the door to the Cinque Terre. It is a pleasant town, with a beautiful historical centre, deserving a visit, and a beach. The hike from Levanto to Monterosso is a classic pone, easy and panoramic, worth to be done. Starting from the castle of Levanto, we ascend along the coast, amniong Mediterranean bush and forest, with changing views over the sea, reaching cape Mesco, from where we see Monterosso, that we reach by a steep descent. Meeting point: Monterosso, (railway station, or a different place). On demand, also La Spezia or any other centre of the Cinque Terre or surroundings, along the railway line. Meeting points are easily reachable by public transportation.
Duration: about 3-4 hours, with return to Levanto by train or, anyway, with hike ending in Monterosso.
Effort: moderate, but already requiring some walking habitude.
Difficulties: no substantial technical difficulties; steep stretches, both uphill and downhill, sometimes slippery with wet ground.
Period: year round.
Additional info
In case you have already been to Monterosso, consider this nice alternative: from punta Mesco, we can follow a path heading inland, to a wooded pass; from there, we descend to Levanto, initially along a valley with a mountain aspect, then through terraced fields. In this case, the hike will take about 6 hours and it will be necessary to bring own food.
