Mount Tregin, a balcony over the sea of Sestri Levante
Mount Tegin cannot pass unobserved by curious hikers exploring the Ligurian east in the seek of new places. It is a huge block of volcanic rocks, well visible from the coastal area around Sestri Levante.
With tis itinerary, we ascend to mount Tregin by a ring itinerary, starting from the village of Bargone. And his tiny village, hidden at short distance from the touristic coastal centres, but at the same time looking so remote, will be the first surprise. Our way starts along a trail among Mediterranean bush, at the base of the east side of mount Tregin. We alraedu start walking on volcanic stones, and cross a vegetation belt that will accompany us for a long stretch: a rare buxwood bushland, unfortunately heavily compromised, to almost destruction, by the attach of a parasite, during the last years.
We reach pass Bocco di Bargone, then following a forest track to the pass of Pian del Lago, a delicate environment of ancient bog lands. We ascend along the barren and spectacular ridge of mount Roccagrande , then descending to the pass preceding the final ascent to mount Tregin; by another top ridge stretch and a pass on easy rocks, we reach the top.
The view all around and over the sea is magnificent. We descend along a rugged trail between multi-coloured volcanic rocks, along a valley bordering the west cliff of mount Tregin, to return to Bargone.
Meeting point: at the village of Bargone, that we reach by own transportation. Or, at Sestri Levante or other places, upon agreement, by always reaching then Bargone with own transportation.
Duration: 4-6 hours of hiking, depending on the pace. For a relaxed hiking, a packed lunch is necessary.
Effort: rather demanding, from the overall gradient and some steep stretches.
Difficulties: some possibilities of slippery stretches with wet ground; a stretch of easy rocks before the summit of mount Tregin.
Period: year round, in absence of snow. Ideal: spring-autumn.

Additional info
A somewhat less demanding option is the start from pass Bocco di Bargone; in this case the return is however almost completely along the same way.
