Sestri Levante and punta Manara

This is one among the most renowned and classic hikes of the area, that can however be shaped in different ways among which, indeed, we could choose. Generally, I propose it in the direction that allows to descend along the most beaten trail, between Punta Manara and Sestri Levante: the approach to Sestri, in fact, gives the most spectacular views in this direction. So, we head to the eastern outskirts of Sestri, and start ascending towards mount Castello; from its ridge we have beautiful views of mount Zatta. We enter into the Mediterranean forest of punta Manara, with views over the gulf of Riva Trigoso and cape Baffe, to reach the remains of the guard tower of punta Manara.  We start our return way, walking around the cape, then descending to Sestri, with more and more spectacular views of the part of the historical centre facing the Baia del Silenzio (Silence Bay).

This is a short hike, ideal to be coupled, as an example, to that to mount Capenardo, or the one from Lavagna to Sestri, for a stay of some days in the area of Sestri Levante.

Sestri Levante and punta Manara

Meeting point: Sestri Levante, place to be defined. Or see here below, “Additional info”.

Duration: half a day, morning or afternoon; morning, during winter.

Effort: easy, for everyone with a minimum habitude to walk.

Difficulties: some limited possibilities of slippery stretches with wet ground.

Period: year round.

A very interesting and, from my point of view, recommendable alternative is the crossing of punta Manara, between Sestri Levante and Riva Trigoso. In this case, the return, in whatever direction, can be done by train. Starting from Riva Trigoso allows to keep the panoramic descent to Sestri. During the ascent from Riva Trigoso, we cross the hamlet of Ginestra.
